Tārā’s Lament over Vāli
abhivādayamānaṃ tvām aṅgadaṃ tvaṃ yathā purā | dīrghāyur bhava putreti kimarthaṃ nābhibhāṣase ||
'Why do you not, with the words 'May you live long'', bless, as before, your son Angada who is greeting you? (said Tara).
The elder’s blessing and acknowledgment sustain social and familial dharma; the verse highlights the pain when that protective speech falls silent at death.
Tārā laments that Vāli, near death, cannot respond to Aṅgada’s salutation with the customary paternal blessing.
Compassionate motherhood—Tārā advocates for the son’s emotional and moral need for a father’s final blessing.
