Tara’s Lament over Vāli
sugrīvasya tvayā bhāryā hṛtā sa ca vivāsitaḥ | yattu tasya tvayā vyuṣṭiḥ prāpteyaṃ plavagādhipa ||
'O king of monkeys! you have banished Sugriva. You have usurped his wife. This is the fruit of your action.
Adharma bears fruit: taking another’s spouse and unjustly banishing a brother violates righteousness, and Tārā interprets Vāli’s downfall as the moral consequence (karma-phala) of those acts.
Tārā addresses the slain Vāli, recalling his wrongs against Sugrīva and linking them to the present catastrophe.
Moral clarity—Tārā’s willingness to name wrongdoing truthfully even in personal tragedy.
