Guidance to Pampa and Rishyamuka; counsel to befriend Sugriva
na tāni kaścin mālyāni tatrāropayitā naraḥ |
na ca vai mlānatāṁ yānti na ca śīryanti rāghava || 3.73.22 ||
There is no one to wear those flowers. Those garlands do not wilt or wither O Rama!
The verse points to the sanctifying force of dharma and tapas: what is connected to disciplined righteousness endures beyond ordinary decay.
Lakṣmaṇa remarks on a marvel near Pampā: garlands exist without human use and yet remain unwithered.
Reverence for holiness: Lakṣmaṇa’s observation prepares Rāma to understand the sacred history of the place and the ascetic power associated with it.
