The Search for Sītā at the Godāvarī
काञ्चनोरश्छदा श्चेमे पिशाचवदनाः खराः।भीमरूपा महाकायाः कस्य वा निहता रणे।।।।
kāñcanoraśchadāś ceme piśācavadanāḥ kharāḥ | bhīmarūpā mahākāyāḥ kasya vā nihatā raṇe || 3.64.46 ||
اور یہ گدھے کس کے ہیں—سینے پر سونے کی زرہ پہنے، پِشَچ جیسے چہروں والے، ہیبت ناک صورت اور عظیم الجثہ—جو یہاں رَن میں مارے گئے؟
Whose are these donkeys, with golden chest-coverings, with the devil's face, fierceful and huge and slain in the encounter ?
Dharma as truth-seeking: Rāma continues identifying signs to understand the perpetrators and restore moral order.
Rāma notices slain, ornamented animals associated with a combatant’s conveyance or retinue, strengthening the inference of a fierce encounter.
Perseverance in investigation: Rāma does not overlook details, even amid distress.
