Śūrpaṇakhā Reports to Rāvaṇa; Rāma’s Might and Sītā’s Description
tataḥ śūrpaṇakhāṃ dṛṣṭvā bruvantīṃ paruṣaṃ vacaḥ | amātya-madhye saṃkruddhaḥ paripapraccha rāvaṇaḥ ||
Incensed at the harsh words Surpanakha used in the midst of ministers, Ravana said:
Speech and counsel in a royal court carry consequences; anger arising amid public counsel can distort judgment and lead to adharmic decisions.
In Laṅkā’s court, Śūrpaṇakhā speaks bitterly; Rāvaṇa, provoked before his ministers, presses her for details.
By contrast, the verse highlights the need for restraint and measured inquiry in leadership—especially in public settings.
