Draupadī–Bhīmasena Dialogue on Suffering, Kāla, and Daiva

Educational Q&A

The verse foregrounds the ethical weight of shared suffering: even the mightiest (Bhīma) can be brought low by adverse fate, and the righteous leader (Yudhiṣṭhira) bears grief that affects the whole family. It highlights compassion and the psychological toll of dharmic endurance during hardship.

A speaker (introduced by Vaiśampāyana’s narration) laments Bhīma’s hell-like distress and notes that Yudhiṣṭhira is also overwhelmed by sorrow. The speaker declares herself drowned in grief and expresses a loss of desire to live, emphasizing the intensity of the Pandavas’ crisis in the Virāṭa-period context.
