Yudhiṣṭhira’s Rationale for Sending Arjuna and Request to Dhaumya
Sarasvatīṃ samāsādya tarpayet pitṛdevatāḥ | Sārasvateṣu lokeṣu modate nātra saṃśayaḥ ||
Pilgrimage is ethically completed through gratitude and duty: by performing tarpana for gods and ancestors at Sarasvatī, one fulfills dharmic obligations and gains auspicious spiritual results, described as joy in Sarasvatī-associated realms.
In the context of a tīrtha-mahātmya passage, the speaker recommends a specific rite at the Sarasvatī tīrtha—offering libations to Devas and Pitṛs—and assures the listener of the resulting merit and happiness in higher worlds.
