Educational Q&A

Competence in warfare—especially knowledge of battle formations—must be paired with responsible leadership. The verse highlights that a commander’s expertise is not mere skill but a means to maintain disciplined order in a righteous cause.

Sanjaya identifies Dhṛṣṭadyumna as the foremost leader of the Pāṇḍava forces, emphasizing his comprehensive knowledge of various traditional and mythic battle-array systems, thereby justifying his role at the army’s front as commander.
