Educational Q&A

The verse highlights a ruler’s dharma: personal well-being is inseparable from harmonious relations with family, trusted advisers, and the dependents who rely on the king’s protection and support. Ethical governance includes care for one’s household, counsel, and subjects.

Sañjaya reports that a respected figure (contextually, a messenger/elder) is warmly inquiring after the king’s household—asking whether Dhṛtarāṣṭra is content with his sons and grandsons, aligned with friends and ministers, and attentive to those who live under his patronage.
