Divyāstra-Pratiyuddha and Twilight Cessation
tataḥ sūto mama suhṛccharavarṣeṇa tāḍitaḥ | apayāto rathopasthān mano mama viṣādayan |
The verse highlights the human cost of warfare: even righteous duty in a martial context brings unavoidable suffering, and attachment to loyal companions intensifies grief. It implicitly urges steadiness of mind and ethical reflection amid violence.
Bhīṣma describes a moment in battle where his charioteer, a trusted well-wisher, is hit by a heavy volley of arrows and falls from the chariot-seat, leaving Bhīṣma distressed.
