दुःखं छिन्द्यामहं ते वै मयि वर्तस्व पुत्रिके । पर्याप्तं ते मनो वत्से यदेवं परिशुष्यसि,“बेटी! मैं तेरा दुःख दूर करूँगा, तू मेरे पास रह। वत्से! तेरे मनमें बड़ा संताप है, तभी तो इस प्रकार सूखी जा रही है
duḥkhaṃ chindyām ahaṃ te vai mayi vartasva putrike | paryāptaṃ te mano vatse yad evaṃ pariśuṣyasi ||
“بیٹی! میں یقیناً تیرا دکھ کاٹ دوں گا؛ تو میرے پاس رہ۔ اے بچی! تیرا دل سخت کرب میں ہے، اسی لیے تو یوں گھلتی جا رہی ہے۔”
भीष्म उवाच
A guardian’s dharma includes compassionate intervention: recognizing another’s inner anguish, offering refuge, and taking responsibility to alleviate suffering rather than leaving the afflicted to endure alone.
Bhishma addresses a young woman as “daughter,” perceives that intense mental distress is causing her to waste away, and urges her to stay with him while he promises to remove her sorrow.
