उपायं धर्ममेवाहुस्त्रिवर्गस्य विशाम्पते । लिप्समानो हि तेनाशु कक्षेडग्निरिव वर्धते,'प्रजानाथ! विद्वान्‌ पुरुष धर्मको ही त्रिवर्गकी प्राप्तिका एकमात्र उपाय बताते हैं। अतः जो धर्मके द्वारा अर्थ और कामको पाना चाहता है, वह शीघ्र ही उसी प्रकार उन्नतिकी दिशामें आगे बढ़ जाता है, जैसे सूखे तिनकोंमें लगी हुई आग बढ़ जाती है

upāyaṃ dharmam evāhus trivargasya viśāṃpate | lipsamāno hi tenāśu kakṣed agnir iva vardhate ||

وَیشَمپایَن نے کہا—اے پرجاناتھ! دانا لوگ دھرم ہی کو تری وَرگ (دھرم-اَرتھ-کام) کے حصول کا سچا وسیلہ بتاتے ہیں۔ جو دھرم کے ذریعے دولت اور لذت چاہتا ہے وہ جلد ہی بڑھتا اور آگے بڑھتا ہے—جیسے خشک گھاس میں لگی آگ پھیلتی جاتی ہے۔
