सुस्वरो मधुपर्कश्न हेमवर्णस्तथैव च । मालयो मातरिश्वा च निशाकरदिवाकरौ,सुवर्णचूड, नागाशी, दारुण, चण्डतुण्डक, अनिल, अनल, विशालाक्ष, कुण्डली, पंकजित्ू, वज्रविष्कम्भ, वैनतेय, वामन, वातवेग, दिशाचक्षु, निमेष, अनिमिष, त्रिराव, सप्तराव, वाल्मीकि, द्वीपक, दैत्यद्वीप, सरिदद्वीप, सारस, पद्मकेतन, सुमुख, चित्रकेतु, चित्रब्ह, अनघ, मेषहत्, कुमुद, दक्ष, सर्पान्त, सहभोजन, गुरुभार, कपोत, सूर्यनेत्र, चिरान्तक, विष्णुधर्मा, कुमार, परिबर्ह, हरि, सुस्वर, मधुपर्क, हेमवर्ण, मालय, मातरिश्वा, निशाकर तथा दिवाकर। इस प्रकार संक्षेपसे मैंने इन मुख्य-मुख्य गरुड़-संतानोंका वर्णन किया है। ये सभी यशस्वी तथा महाबली बताये गये हैं
nārada uvāca | susvaro madhuparkāśna hema-varṇas tathaiva ca | mālayo mātariśvā ca niśākara-divākarau | suvarṇacūḍo nāgāśī dāruṇaś caṇḍatuṇḍakaḥ | anilo'nalo viśālākṣaḥ kuṇḍalī paṅkajit | vajraviṣkambho vainateyo vāmanaḥ vātavegaḥ | diśācakṣur nimeṣo'nimiṣas trirāvaḥ sapta-rāvaḥ | vālmīkir dvīpako daityadvīpaḥ saridadvīpaḥ sāraso padmaketanaḥ | sumukhaś citraketuś citrabhaḥ anaghaḥ meṣahat kumudaḥ dakṣaḥ sarpāntaḥ sahabhojanaḥ gurubhāraḥ kapotaḥ sūryanetraś cirāntako viṣṇudharmā kumāraḥ paribarhaḥ hariḥ | susvaraḥ madhuparkaḥ hemavarṇaḥ mālayaḥ mātariśvā niśākaraḥ tathā divākaraḥ | iti saṅkṣepeṇa mayā ete mukhya-mukhya-garuḍa-santānā varṇitāḥ | ete sarve yaśasvino mahābalāś ca proktāḥ ||
Narada said: “Susvara, Madhuparka, Hema-varna, and likewise Malaya and Matarishva; Nishakara and Divakara; Suvarnachuda, Nagashi, Daruna, Chandatundaka; Anila, Anala, Vishalaksha, Kundali, Pankajit; Vajravishkambha, Vainateya, Vamana, Vatavega; Dishachakshu, Nimesha, Animisha; Trirava, Saptarava; Valmiki, Dvipaka, Daityadvipa, Saridadvipa; Sarasa, Padmaketana; Sumukha, Chitraketu, Chitrabha; Anagha, Meshahat; Kumuda, Daksha; Sarpanta, Sahabhojana, Gurubhāra; Kapota, Suryanetra, Chirantaka; Vishnudharma, Kumara, Paribarha, Hari—thus, in brief, I have described these foremost among the offspring of Garuda. All of them are declared to be illustrious and exceedingly mighty.”
नारद उवाच
The verse functions as a traditional epic catalogue: it emphasizes that lineage and named remembrance are tied to reputation (yaśas) and capability (mahābala). In the Mahabharata’s ethical world, power is acknowledged, but it is framed through orderly narration and accountability—beings are not anonymous; they are situated within a lineage and a moral cosmos.
Narada is enumerating the principal descendants of Garuda, listing many names and concluding that he has mentioned the chief ones only in brief, and that all are famed and very powerful.
