Kṣātra-dharma in Campaign and Battle: Protection, Purification, and the Ideal Warrior’s End (क्षात्रधर्मः—अभियानयुद्धे रक्षणदानशुद्धिः)
पुरुषाणां समानानां दृश्यते महदन्तरम् | संग्रामेडनीकवेलायामुत्क्रुष्टेडशभिपतन्त्युत,सभी पुरुष देखनेमें समान होते हैं; परंतु युद्धस्थलमें जब सैनिकोंके परस्पर भिड़नेका समय आता है और चारों ओरसे वीरोंकी पुकार होने लगती है, उस समय उनमें महान् अन्तर दृष्टिगोचर होता है। एक श्रेणीके वीर तो निर्भय होकर शत्रुओंपर टूट पड़ते हैं और दूसरी श्रेणीके लोग प्राण बचानेकी चिन्तामें पड़ जाते हैं

بھیشم نے کہا—اگرچہ آدمی دیکھنے میں ایک جیسے ہوتے ہیں، مگر ان کے درمیان بڑا فرق اس وقت ظاہر ہوتا ہے جب میدانِ جنگ میں لشکروں کے ٹکرانے کا لمحہ آتا ہے اور چاروں طرف بہادروں کی للکار بلند ہوتی ہے۔ تب کچھ لوگ بےخوف ہو کر دشمن پر ٹوٹ پڑتے ہیں، اور کچھ اپنی جان بچانے کی فکر میں مبتلا ہو جاتے ہیں۔

Outward sameness does not indicate inner strength. Crisis—especially the terror and confusion of battle—reveals a person’s real disposition: steadfast courage versus self-preserving fear.
