Determining Worthy Gifts, Recipients, and Permissible Food
priyārtham api caiteṣāṁ brāhmaṇānāṁ mahātmanām | niyogād asya ca guro vyāsasyāmita-tejasaḥ ||
A ruler should honor the counsel of virtuous Brahmins and obey the directive of a legitimate guru (here, Vyāsa), prioritizing actions that please well-wishers and serve the welfare of the wider world rather than personal anger or narrow interest.
Vāyudeva addresses a king, urging him to accept the request of noble Brahmins and to follow Vyāsa’s instruction—acting in a way that brings satisfaction to allies and to Draupadī, and turning his effort toward the common good.
