केनैष धर्म: कथितो देवेन ऋषिणापि वा
Janamejaya uvāca | kenaiṣa dharmaḥ kathito devena ṛṣiṇāpi vā, bhagavan? asya bhaktirūpasya dharmasya kaḥ devatā vā ṛṣiḥ vā upadeṣṭā? ananya-bhaktānāṃ jīvanacaryā kā? sa ca kadā prācīnaḥ pravṛttaḥ? mama saṃśayaṃ nivāraya; etad-viṣayaṃ śrotuṃ mama manasi mahān autkaṇṭhyaḥ ||
جنمیجیہ نے کہا— “اے بھگون! یہ دھرم کس نے بتایا—کسی دیوتا نے یا کسی رِشی نے؟ بھکتی ہی جس کی صورت ہے، اس دھرم کا پہلا اُپدیشک کون تھا؟ اننّیہ بھکتوں کی زندگی کی روش کیا ہے، اور یہ پرمپرا کب سے رائج ہے؟ کرم فرما کر میرا شک دور کیجیے؛ اس موضوع کو سننے کے لیے میرا دل بے حد مشتاق ہے۔”
