Reflection on the Many ‘Doors’ of Dharma (Śānti-parva 342)
agnīḥ somena saṃyukta ekayonitvam āgataḥ | agnīṣomamayaṃ tasmāj jagat kṛtsnaṃ carācaram ||
Creation is portrayed as arising from the union of complementary principles—Agni (heat, energy, transformation) and Soma (coolness, nourishment, sap). Seeing the whole world as ‘Agni–Soma-made’ encourages a unifying, non-fragmented view of reality and supports dharmic conduct grounded in harmony rather than opposition.
In the Shanti Parva’s reflective discourse, Arjuna speaks a cosmological statement: Agni and Soma, when united, are described as sharing a single generative source, and thus all beings and things—moving and unmoving—are said to be constituted by their combined essence.
