Systems of Knowledge and Vyāsa’s Nārāyaṇa-Origin

sahasā dṛṣṭavantaḥ sma punar eva bṛhaspate | “bṛhaspate! thoḍī hī der meṃ asmākaṃ samakṣaṃ ekaiva sāhasrāṇāṃ sūryāṇāṃ samā prabhā prakaṭābhavat | asmākaṃ dṛṣṭiḥ sahasā tasyaiva diśi ākṛṣṭābhavat”

Educational Q&A

The passage highlights how extraordinary, luminous manifestations can seize human attention and signal the presence of a higher power or a decisive turning point. Ethically, it suggests humility before the vastness of the cosmic order and attentiveness to signs that redirect one’s understanding toward dharma.

Bhīṣma addresses Bṛhaspati and reports a sudden appearance of overwhelming brilliance—likened to a thousand suns—arising before them. The phenomenon is so compelling that everyone’s gaze is involuntarily drawn toward its source, indicating an epiphanic or portent-like event.
