भीष्म उवाच विस्तीर्णैषा कथा राजन् श्रुता मे पितृसंनिधौ । यैषा तव हि वक्तव्या कथासारो हि सा मता,भीष्मजी कहते हैं--राजन! यह कथा बहुत विस्तृत है। इसे मैंने अपने पिताजीके निकट सुना था। इस समय जो कथा तुम्हारे सामने कहनी है, वह सम्पूर्ण कथाओंकी सारभूत मानी गयी है
bhīṣma uvāca vistīrṇaiṣā kathā rājan śrutā me pitṛsaṃnidhau | yaiṣā tava hi vaktavyā kathāsāro hi sā matā ||
بھیشم نے کہا—اے راجا! یہ حکایت نہایت مفصل ہے؛ میں نے اسے اپنے والد کی موجودگی میں سنا تھا۔ لیکن اس وقت جو بات تمہیں سنانی ہے، وہ تمام حکایات کا نچوڑ سمجھی جاتی ہے۔
