Educational Q&A

Bhīṣma introduces a structured, orderly account of nature: winds do not move randomly but follow defined ‘paths’ (mārgas). The emphasis on anupūrvaśaḥ (sequence) models disciplined inquiry—understanding the world through careful classification and attentive listening.

In the didactic setting of the Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma continues instructing his listener by turning to a cosmological topic. He announces that there are seven routes by which winds move across earth and the atmospheric region, and he prepares to enumerate them one by one.
