ततोडनध्याय इति तं व्यास: पुत्रमवारयत् | शुको वारितमात्रस्तु कौतूहलसमन्वित:,तब अनध्याय-काल बताकर व्यासजीने अपने पुत्रको वेद पढ़नेसे उस समय रोक दिया। उनके मना करनेपर शुकदेवजीके मनमें इसका कारण जाननेके लिये प्रबल उत्कण्ठा हुई
tato 'nadhyāya iti taṃ vyāsaḥ putram avārayat | śuko vāritamātras tu kautūhalasamanvitaḥ ||
تب ویاس نے کہا، “یہ اَنَڌیای (مطالعۂ وید کی ممانعت) کا وقت ہے،” اور اپنے بیٹے کو اسی وقت ویدپাঠ سے روک دیا۔ روکے جاتے ہی شُک کے دل میں سبب جاننے کی شدید جستجو جاگ اٹھی۔
भीष्म उवाच
Even sacred learning is governed by dharma: Vedic recitation is not merely personal enthusiasm but must follow prescribed rules such as anadhyāya (times when study is suspended). Discipline and reverence for procedure are presented as integral to true learning.
Bhīṣma recounts that Vyāsa tells his son Śuka to stop Vedic study because it is an anadhyāya time. Śuka, stopped at once, becomes intensely curious to understand the reason behind the restriction.
