Educational Q&A

The verse highlights that true spiritual stature can be portrayed as arising from tapas and yogic power rather than conventional birth—Śukadeva is presented as ‘born from the araṇī,’ symbolizing a life rooted in ascetic discipline and inner realization.

Bhīṣma describes the extraordinary origin of the sage Śukadeva: through the churning of the araṇī (fire-drill), he is said to have manifested as a great ascetic and yogin, with Śukra also mentioned as being produced ‘alongside’ in that churning.
