A self-restrained person who becomes universally worthy of respect and who elicits gracious, pleasant speech from others through noble conduct attains a divine state; social honor and spiritual ascent are linked to inner discipline and ethical behavior.
Haṁsa presents a moral criterion for spiritual progress: he describes the marks of an exemplary person—honored by all, compared to an elevating pillar, and addressed with kindly words—and states that such a disciplined individual reaches the realm/state of the gods.
