Yudhiṣṭhira’s Remorse and Vyāsa’s Teaching on Impermanence (Śoka-nivāraṇa)

punaruktaṃ tu vakṣyāmi diṣṭam etad iti prabho |

Educational Q&A

Vyāsa emphasizes acceptance of what is ‘diṣṭa’—ordained by destiny—and counsels restraint in grief, implying that ethical steadiness comes from recognizing the limits of human control.

Vyāsa addresses a ruler/lord in distress and reiterates a prior instruction: the events that have occurred are the result of destiny, and the listener should not be overwhelmed by sorrow.
