Ahiṃsā as the Superior Dharma: Practical and Scriptural Reasoning
adharmo nāsti te mṛtyo saṁyacchemāḥ prajāḥ śubhe | mayā hy uktaṁ mṛṣā bhadre bhavitā neha kiṁcana ||
The verse asserts that actions aligned with a higher cosmic purpose need not incur adharma, and it emphasizes the binding power of a truthful, authoritative utterance—Bhīṣma’s word is presented as unfailing.
Bhīṣma addresses the personified Death, instructing it to restrain the destruction of beings and assuring that no sin will attach; he further declares that his statement in this matter cannot prove false.
