व्यास उवाच प्राप्प संस्कारमेताभ्यामाश्रमा भ्यां तत: परम्‌ । यत्कार्य परमार्थ तु तदिहैकमना: शूणु,व्यासजीने कहा--बेटा! ब्रह्मचर्य और गृहस्थाश्रमके धर्मोद्वारा चित्तका संस्कार (शोधन) करनेके अनन्तर मुक्तिके लिये जो वास्तविक कर्तव्य है, उसे बताता हूँ, तुम यहाँ एकाग्रचित्त होकर सुनो

vyāsa uvāca | prāpya saṃskāram etābhyām āśramābhyāṃ tataḥ param | yat kāryaṃ paramārthaṃ tu tad ihaikamanāḥ śṛṇu |

ویاس نے کہا—بیٹے! برہماچریہ اور گِرہستھ—ان دونوں آشرموں کے دھرم کے ذریعے جب باطن کی تہذیب و تطہیر (سنسکار) حاصل ہو جائے، تب اس کے بعد میں تمہیں پرمار্থ، یعنی موکش، تک پہنچانے والا حقیقی فریضہ بتاتا ہوں۔ یہاں یکسو ہو کر سنو۔
