Manu’s Instruction on Elemental Origination, Sense-Withdrawal, and Discrimination of the Supreme Nature

After explaining how the intellect operates (buddhi-gati), Bhīṣma emphasizes that wisdom must culminate in practical mastery over the senses. Ethical steadiness and right conduct depend on restraining sense-impulses rather than being driven by them.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma continues instructing Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma and inner discipline. Here he closes a section on the workings of intellect and transitions to the next practical requirement for a dharmic life: conquering the senses.
