अग्रय: प्रहरणानां च खड््गो माद्रवतीसुत । महेश्वरप्रणीतश्न पुराणे निश्चयं गत:,(एतानि चैव नामानि पुराणे निश्चितानि वै ।) माद्रीनन्दन! खड्ग सब आयुधोंमें श्रेष्ठ है। भगवान् रुद्रने सबसे पहले इसका संचालन किया था। पुराणमें इसकी श्रेष्ठताका निश्चय किया गया है। उपर्युक्त सारे नाम पुराणोंमें निश्चितरूपसे कहे गये हैं
agrayaḥ praharaṇānāṃ ca khaḍgo mādravatīsuta | maheśvarapraṇītaś ca purāṇe niścayaṃ gataḥ || etāni caiva nāmāni purāṇe niścitāni vai |
بھیشم نے کہا—اے مادراتی کے فرزند! کھڑگ تمام ہتھیاروں میں برتر ہے۔ مہیشور (رُدر) نے سب سے پہلے اسے حرکت میں لا کر استعمال کیا، اور پورانوں نے اس کی برتری کو قطعی طور پر ثابت کیا ہے۔ یہی نام بھی پورانک روایت میں ثابت و معتبر بیان ہوئے ہیں۔
