कृतं मृगयसे शत्रुं सुखोपायमसंशयम् । “बुद्धिमानू लोमश! जो तुम आज जालके बन्धनसे छूटनेके बाद ही कृतज्ञतावश मुझ अपने शत्रुको सुख पहुँचानेका असंदिग्ध उपाय ढूँढ़ने लगे हो
kṛtaṃ mṛgayase śatruṃ sukhopāyam asaṃśayam | asmin nilaya eva tvaṃ nyagrodhād avatāritaḥ ||
بھیشم نے کہا—تم بے شک اپنے دشمن کو راحت پہنچانے کا کوئی یقینی اور نرم طریقہ ڈھونڈ رہے ہو۔ اسی ٹھکانے میں تو تمہیں برگد کے درخت سے نیچے اتارا گیا تھا۔ پھر آج جال کے بندھن سے چھوٹتے ہی تم شکرگزاری کے باعث مجھے—اپنے دشمن کو—آرام دینے کا راستہ کیوں تلاش کرنے لگے؟ احسان کے بدلے میں تو ہماری حالت برابر ہے؛ اگر میں نے تمہیں خطرے سے چھڑایا، تو تم نے بھی مجھے اسی طرح کی آفت سے بچایا۔ پھر میں کچھ نہ کروں اور تم ہی کیوں احسان چکانے کے لیے اتنے بے قرار ہو؟
