Āpad-dharma and Discernment in Livelihood (आपद्धर्मे विज्ञानबलम्)
सतं विदित्वा ब्रद्मर्षियममागतमोजसा । प्राउजलि: प्रयतो भूत्वा उपविष्टस्तपोधन:,ब्रह्मर्षि गौतमने वहाँ आये हुए यमराजको उनके तेजसे ही जान लिया। फिर वे तपोधन मुनि हाथ जोड़ संयतचित्त हो उनके पास जा बैठे
sataṁ viditvā brahmarṣiyamam āgatam ojasā | prāñjaliḥ prayato bhūtvā upaviṣṭas tapodhanaḥ ||
تپودھن برہمرشی گوتم نے اُس کے جلال ہی سے پہچان لیا کہ آنے والا یم ہے۔ پھر وہ ضبطِ نفس کے ساتھ ہاتھ باندھ کر اس کے قریب جا بیٹھا۔
भीष्म उवाच
True righteousness includes discernment and humility: when confronted with authentic dharmic authority (Yama), the wise respond with self-restraint, reverence, and readiness to listen rather than pride or haste.
A great ascetic (identified in the passage as Gautama) recognizes Yama—despite his appearance as a brahmarṣi—by the unmistakable radiance of his spiritual power, then respectfully joins his hands and sits near him in disciplined attention.
