बलेन महता गुप्त: सामात्य: सावरोधन: । मृगस्तु विद्धो बाणेन मया सरति शल्यवान्‌,“मेरे साथ बहुत बड़ी सेना थी। उसके द्वारा सुरक्षित हो मैं मन्‍्त्री और अन्तःपुरके साथ आया था, परंतु मेरे बाणोंसे घायल हुआ एक मृग बाणसहित इधर ही भाग निकला

balena mahatā guptaḥ sāmātyaḥ sāvarodhanaḥ | mṛgas tu viddho bāṇena mayā sarati śalyavān ||

بھیشم نے کہا— “میرے ساتھ ایک بڑی فوج تھی؛ اسی کے حصار میں میں اپنے وزیروں اور اندرونِ محل (حرم) کے ساتھ چل رہا تھا۔ مگر ایک ہرن جسے میں نے تیر مارا تھا، تیر بدن میں لیے ہوئے ہی یہاں سے بھاگ نکلا۔”
