अध्याय ९ — दुर्योधनस्य अन्त्यावस्था, विलापः, तथा सौप्तिक-प्रतिवृत्तम्

Duryodhana’s Final Condition, Lamentation, and the Night’s Report

वयमेव त्रयो राजन्‌ गच्छन्तं परमां गतिम्‌,“राजन्‌! परम गतिको जाते समय आपके पीछे-पीछे जो हम तीनों भी नहीं चल रहे हैं, इसके कारण हम स्वर्ग और अर्थ दोनोंसे वंचित हो आपके सुकृतोंका स्मरण करते हुए दिन- रात शोकाग्निमें जलते रहेंगे

vayameva trayo rājan gacchantaṃ paramāṃ gatim |

سنجے نے کہا— اے راجن! آپ پرم گتی کی طرف جا رہے ہیں، مگر ہم تینوں آپ کے پیچھے نہیں چل پا رہے۔ اسی سبب ہم جنت اور دنیوی بہرہ—دونوں سے محروم ہو کر، آپ کے نیک اعمال کو یاد کرتے ہوئے دن رات غم کی آگ میں جلتے رہیں گے۔

Educational Q&A

The verse frames ethical consequence in relational terms: failing to accompany or uphold a righteous elder/king at the decisive moment leads to loss of both transcendent reward (svarga) and worldly well-being (artha), leaving only remorseful remembrance of the other’s merit.

Sañjaya addresses the king, saying that as the king proceeds toward the ‘highest destiny,’ the speaker and two others are not able or not destined to follow; they foresee themselves left behind, deprived of reward and prosperity, consumed by grief while recalling the king’s virtuous deeds.
