अपने सगे सम्बन्धियोंको भी छोड़कर सम्पूर्ण दिशाओंमें भागते हुए योद्धाओंके नाम और गोत्रको पुकार-पुकारकर लोग परस्पर बुला रहे थे। कितने ही मनुष्य हाहाकार करते हुए धरतीपर पड़ गये थे ।। तान्‌ बुद्धवा रणमत्तो5सौ द्रोणपुत्रो व्यपोथयत्‌ | तत्रापरे वध्यमाना मुहुर्मुहुरचेतस:

tān buddhvā raṇamatto ’sau droṇaputro vyapothayat | tatrāpare vadhyamānā muhur muhur acetasaḥ ||

یہ سمجھ کر جنگ کے جنون میں ڈوبا ہوا دروṇ کا بیٹا انہیں کاٹ گراتا گیا۔ وہاں دوسرے بھی، قتل ہوتے ہوئے، بار بار بے ہوش ہو جاتے تھے—خوف اور ابتری نے ان کی تمیز چھین لی تھی۔
