The verse highlights the tension between dharma and mortality in war: even a warrior who embodies kṣatriya-dharma and martial excellence can be overcome. It points to the sobering ethical reality that battlefield duty and valor do not guarantee survival; outcomes hinge on skill, circumstance, and the inexorable law of death.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Droṇa, famed as a supreme archer, has slain warriors by sending them to Yama’s abode. Among those fallen is the Pāñcāla fighter Mitravarmā, described as a great bowman devoted to the warrior code.
