संजय उवाच राजन पूर्वनिमित्तानि धर्मिष्ठानि विचिन्तय,संजयने कहा--राजन्! पूर्वकालमें आपने जो चद्यूतक्रीडा आदि धर्मसंगत कारण उपस्थित किये थे, उन्हें याद तो कीजिये। जो मनुष्य बीती हुई बातके लिये पीछे चिन्ता करता है, उसका वह कार्य तो सिद्ध होता नहीं, केवल चिन्ता करनेसे वह स्वयं नष्ट हो जाता है
sañjaya uvāca | rājan pūrvanimittāni dharmiṣṭhāni vicintaya | yo hi bhūtaprakāśe 'rthe paścāc cintayate naraḥ | tasya tat karma naiva syāt cintayā caiva naśyati ||
سنجے نے کہا—اے راجن، اُن پہلے اسباب پر غور کیجیے جنہیں آپ نے کبھی دھرم کے مطابق قرار دے کر پیش کیا تھا۔ جو شخص گزرے ہوئے کام پر بعد میں کڑھتا اور فکر کرتا رہتا ہے، نہ وہ کام دوبارہ سرانجام پاتا ہے نہ بدلتا ہے؛ ایسی فکر سے وہ خود ہی تباہ ہو جاتا ہے۔
