Droṇa’s Conditional Boon: The Plan to Capture Yudhiṣṭhira (द्रोणेन युधिष्ठिरग्रहणोपायः)
क्रूर: सर्वविनाशाय कालो5सौ नातिवर्तते । युधिष्ठटिरको धर्मका स्वाभाविक फल प्राप्त हुआ है, किंतु मेरे पुत्रोंकी उसका फल नहीं मिल रहा है। सबका विनाश करनेके लिये प्राप्त हुआ यह क्रूर काल बीत नहीं रहा है ।।
krūraḥ sarva-vināśāya kālo 'sau nātivartate | yudhiṣṭhiraḥ dharmakaḥ svābhāvika-phala-prāptaḥ, kintu me putrāṇāṃ tasya phalaṃ naiva labhyate | sarvasya vināśaṃ kartum prāptaḥ ayaṃ krūraḥ kālo na vyatīyate || anyathā cintitā hy arthā narais tāta manasvibhiḥ |
سب کی ہلاکت کے لیے آیا ہوا یہ سفّاک زمانہ ٹلتا نہیں۔ یُدھِشٹھِر کو دھرم کا فطری پھل ملا ہے، مگر میرے بیٹوں کو اس کا پھل نہیں ملتا۔ یہ سفّاک زمانہ جو ہمہ گیر تباہی کے لیے آیا ہے، گزر نہیں رہا۔ ورنہ، اے عزیز، بلند ہمت لوگوں نے جو انجام سوچے تھے وہ کچھ اور ہوتے۔
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse contrasts moral causality (dharma yielding its natural fruit) with the overpowering force of Kāla (Time/Fate) during catastrophic war: even when righteousness exists, destructive Time can prevent expected rewards from manifesting for everyone.
Vaiśampāyana reports a reflection on the war’s grim inevitability: Time has arrived for widespread destruction and will not pass; although Yudhiṣṭhira is portrayed as receiving the rightful fruit of dharma, the speaker laments that his own sons are not receiving such a favorable outcome.
