तत्राद्भुतमपश्याम सम्प्रहारं सुदारुणम्‌ । यदकुर्वन्‌ रणे शूरा: सृंजया: कुरुभि: सह,राजन! हमने वहाँ अत्यन्त भयंकर और अद्भुत संग्राम देखा, जिसे रणवीर सूंजयोंने कौरवोंके साथ किया था। शत्रुओंको संताप देनेवाले नरेश! वहाँ चारों ओर इतने बाण छोड़े गये थे कि उनसे आच्छादित हो जानेके कारण हम आकाश, सूर्य, दिशा तथा विदिशाओंको भी नहीं देख पाते थे

tatrādbhutam apaśyāma samprahāraṃ sudāruṇam | yad akurvan raṇe śūrāḥ sṛñjayāḥ kurubhiḥ saha ||

اے راجن! وہاں ہم نے ایک عجیب مگر نہایت ہولناک ٹکراؤ دیکھا—وہ گھمسان جو دلیر سِرِنجَیوں نے کوروؤں کے ساتھ برپا کیا۔ چاروں طرف چھوٹے تیروں نے سب کچھ ڈھانپ دیا اور منظر ہیبت و حیرت سے بھر گیا۔
