Abhimanyu’s Assault on Bhīṣma’s Screen; Banner-Felling and Reinforcements (सौभद्र-भीष्म-समरः)
सद्धभावे साधुभावे च सदित्येतत् प्रयुज्यते । प्रशस्ते कर्मणि तथा सच्छब्द: पार्थ युज्यते,'सत्'--इस प्रकार यह परमात्माका नाम सत्यभावमें* और श्रेष्ठभावमें+ प्रयोग किया जाता है तथा हे पार्थ! उत्तम कर्ममें भी* “सत” शब्दका प्रयोग किया जाता है
sadbhāve sādhubhāve ca sad ity etat prayujyate | praśaste karmaṇi tathā sacchabdaḥ pārtha yujyate ||
‘ست’ کا لفظ سچّے وجود اور نیک خصلت کے معنی میں بولا جاتا ہے؛ اور اے پارتھ! ستائش کے لائق (اچھے) عمل پر بھی ‘ست’ ہی کا اطلاق ہوتا ہے۔
अजुन उवाच
The verse explains the ethical and spiritual range of the word 'sat': it signifies truth/reality (sadbhāva), noble goodness (sādhubhāva), and is also used for actions that are worthy of praise (praśasta karma). In effect, 'sat' marks both inner integrity and outwardly commendable conduct.
In the Bhīṣma Parva’s Bhagavadgītā context, Kṛṣṇa is instructing Arjuna (addressed as Pārtha) on how sacred terms like 'sat' function: they are not merely metaphysical labels but also ethical markers, used to affirm sincerity, virtue, and praiseworthy deeds.
