Dhyāna-Yoga
Discipline of Meditation and Mental Restraint
daivam evāpare yajñaṁ yoginaḥ paryupāsate | brahmāgnāv apare yajñaṁ yajñenaivopajuhvati ||
The verse distinguishes two sacrificial orientations among yogins: some perform worship as offerings to divine powers, while others internalize sacrifice by offering into Brahman itself—treating Brahman as the sacrificial fire and the act of sacrifice as the means of self-offering. Both are framed as legitimate disciplines when performed with reverence and insight.
In the teaching on karma-yoga and yajña, Arjuna (as presented in the supplied speaker line) describes different yogic practitioners and their sacrificial practices, setting up a broader explanation of how varied forms of sacrifice—outer and inner—can purify action and orient it toward liberation.
