The verse highlights a yuga-specific moral atmosphere: in Dvāpara, vigor and heroism are widespread, but they often express themselves as rivalry and the urge to dominate. It cautions that strength without restraint can incline society toward conflict, making dharma harder to uphold.
Sañjaya, narrating events and their broader significance, characterizes the Dvāpara age as one in which all varṇas are present and people are notably energetic and valorous, yet inclined to compete for victory over one another—an apt backdrop for the Kurukṣetra war.
