Adhyāya 90: Babhruvāhana’s Reception and the Commencement of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Aśvamedha
ज्ञातिसम्बन्धिनस्तुष्टा: शौचेन च तृपस्य नः । देवा हविर्भि: पुण्यैश्व रक्षणै: शरणागता:
jñātisambandhinas tuṣṭāḥ śaucena ca tṛpasy naḥ | devā havirbhiḥ puṇyaiś ca rakṣaṇaiḥ śaraṇāgatāḥ ||
وَیشَمپایَن نے کہا— “ہمارے رشتہ دار اور قرابت دار پاکیزہ طرزِ عمل سے مطمئن ہوئے؛ دیوتا مقدس ہَوی (نذرانوں) سے؛ اور پناہ لینے والے اُنہیں دی گئی حفاظت سے مطمئن ہوئے۔”
वैशग्पायन उवाच
The verse emphasizes dharma as the proper fulfillment of distinct obligations: purity and upright conduct satisfy one’s kin and social circle; sacrificial offerings honor the gods; and taking responsibility for protection fulfills the duty owed to those who seek refuge.
Vaiśaṃpāyana summarizes how various constituencies are being pleased and upheld through appropriate means—ritual for the gods, ethical purity for relatives, and protective guardianship for refuge-seekers—presenting an ideal of righteous governance and social order.
