वसुदेव उवाच
The verse frames the Kurukṣetra war as an ethically weighty event and models dhārmic inquiry: one should seek a truthful account of how great persons acted and how a conflict of such consequence unfolded, rather than treating war as mere spectacle.
Vasudeva, as the speaker, asks for a detailed narration of the great war—specifically how the Pāṇḍavas fought against renowned elders and champions like Bhīṣma, Droṇa, Kṛpa, Karṇa, and Śalya—inviting a recounting of its course and key encounters.
