Puṣkara-Śapatha Itihāsa (Agastya–Indra Dispute at the Tīrthas) | पुष्कर-शपथ-आख्यानम्
गौतम उवाच गोदमो दमतो<5धूमो5दमस्ते समदर्शनात् । विद्धि मां गौतमं कृत्ये यातुधानि निबोध माम्
gautama uvāca | godamo damato dhūmo 'damas te samadarśanāt | viddhi māṃ gautamaṃ kṛtye yātudhāni nibodha mām ||
گوتَم نے کہا—اے کِرتیا! میں نے ‘گو’ یعنی حواس کو قابو میں کیا ہے، اسی لیے مجھے ‘گودم’ کہا جاتا ہے۔ میں دھوئیں سے پاک آگ کی مانند درخشاں ہوں۔ سب کو یکساں نظر سے دیکھنے کے سبب نہ تم اور نہ کوئی اور مجھے دبا سکتا ہے۔ اے یاتودھانی! مجھے گوتَم جان اور مجھے سمجھ۔
