गोप्रदानगुणाः तथा कपिलागोविधानम्
Merits of Cow-Gift and the Origin-Account of Kapilā Cows
यः सर्वमांसानि न भक्षयीत पुमान् सदा भावितो धर्मयुक्त: । मातापित्रोररचिता सत्ययुक्तः शुश्रूषिता ब्राह्मणानामनिन्द्य:
pitāmaha uvāca | yaḥ sarvamāṁsāni na bhakṣayīta pumān sadā bhāvito dharmayuktaḥ | mātāpitror arcitaḥ satyayuktaḥ śuśrūṣitā brāhmaṇānām anindyaḥ |
بھیشم (پیتامہ) نے کہا—جو مرد ہر قسم کے گوشت کے کھانے سے کلیتاً پرہیز کرے، ہمیشہ پاکیزہ تذکر و تفکر میں منہمک رہ کر دھرم میں قائم ہو؛ جو ماں باپ کی تعظیم و پوجا کرے، سچائی پر ثابت قدم رہے اور برہمنوں کی خدمت کرے—ایسا بے عیب شخص ان اوصاف کے ساتھ سناتن اور لازوال گولوک کو پاتا ہے۔

Bhīṣma presents a dharmic ideal: non-violence expressed through abstaining from meat, steady devotion and self-cultivation, truthfulness, reverence for parents, and humble service to brāhmaṇas. Such disciplined ethical living is said to lead to an exalted posthumous state (Goloka).
In the Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma. Here he lists virtues and observances that define a blameless person and states the spiritual result of such conduct—attainment of the eternal realm called Goloka.
