स तेन कर्मणा स्पर्थन्‌ पृथिवीं पृथिवीपते । चचार गतभी: प्रीतो लब्धकीर्तिवरो नृप,पृथ्वीनाथ! विपुल उस तपस्याद्वारा मन-ही-मन गर्वका अनुभव करके दूसरोंसे स्पर्धा रखने लगे। नरेश्वर! उन्हें गुरुसे कीर्ति और वरदान दोनों प्राप्त हो चुके थे; अतः वे निर्भय एवं संतुष्ट होकर पृथ्वीपर विचरने लगे

sa tena karmaṇā spardhan pṛthivīṁ pṛthivīpate | cacāra gatabhīḥ prīto labdhakīrtivaro nṛpa ||

بھیشم نے کہا—اے زمین کے مالک! اُس عمل (تپسیا) کے سبب اس کے دل میں غرور پیدا ہوا اور وہ دوسروں سے مقابلہ کرنے لگا۔ اے بادشاہ! چونکہ اسے گرو سے شہرت بھی ملی اور ور بھی، اس لیے وہ بےخوف اور مطمئن ہو کر زمین پر گھومنے لگا۔
