Vipulopākhyāna—Ruci-rakṣā and Śakra’s Māyā (विपुलोपाख्यानम्—रुचिरक्षणं शक्रमाया च)

भीष्म उवाच क्रिया भवति केषांचिदुपांशुव्रतमुत्तमम्‌ । यो यो याचेत यत्‌ किज्चित्‌ सर्व दद्याम इत्यपि,भीष्मजीने कहा--युधिष्ठिर! कितने ही याचकोंका तो यज्ञ, गुरुदक्षिणा या कुटुम्बका भरण-पोषण आदि कार्य ही मनोरथ होता है और किन्हींका उत्तम मौनव्रतसे रहकर निर्वाह करना प्रयोजन होता है। इनमेंसे जो-जो याचक जिस किसी वस्तुकी याचना करे उन सबके लिये यही कहना चाहिये कि “हम देंगे” (किसीको निराश नहीं करना चाहिये)

bhīṣma uvāca

kriyā bhavati keṣāñcid upāṃśu-vratam uttamam |

yo yo yāceta yat kiñcit sarvaṃ dadyām ity api ||

بھیشم نے کہا— اے یُدھشٹھِر! بعض لوگوں کے لیے یَجْن، گُرو دَکْشِنا اور کنبے کی پرورش جیسے اعمال ہی مقصود ہوتے ہیں، اور بعض کے لیے اُپانشو—خاموش ضبط و ریاضت کا ورت—سب سے اعلیٰ انضباط ہے۔ اس لیے جو بھی سائل جو کچھ مانگے، دل میں یہی نیت رکھنی چاہیے کہ ‘میں دوں گا’؛ کسی کو مایوس کرکے واپس نہ لوٹایا جائے۔
