Indra–Mataṅga Saṃvāda: On the rarity and responsibilities of Brāhmaṇya

yudhiṣṭhira uvāca | bhavān viśiṣṭo buddhyā ca prajñayā tapasā tathā | tasmād bhavantaṃ pṛcchāmi dharmaṃ dharmabhṛtāṃ vara | nānyas tvadanyo lokeṣu praṣṭavyo 'sti narādhipa ||

Educational Q&A

Dharma should be learned through humble inquiry from a truly qualified authority—one proven by discernment (buddhi), wisdom (prajñā), and disciplined conduct (tapas).

Yudhiṣṭhira respectfully acknowledges the addressee’s exceptional moral and intellectual stature and, on that basis, requests instruction on dharma, declaring that no one else is as worthy to be questioned.
