dattavān gautamasyaitad aṅgirā vai mahātapāḥ | aṅgirāḥ samanujñātaḥ kāśyapena ca dhīmatā ||
The verse emphasizes the legitimacy of dharma-teaching through an authenticated lineage: Aṅgirā teaches Gautama, and Aṅgirā’s own knowledge is grounded in the sanction and wisdom received from Kāśyapa. Ethical instruction is thus framed as trustworthy when it is responsibly transmitted and authorized.
Ajadriya cites a chain of transmission: the great ascetic Aṅgirā first instructed Gautama, and Aṅgirā had earlier obtained the teaching with the approval/authorization of the wise Kāśyapa. The speaker is establishing provenance to strengthen the authority of the doctrine being discussed.
