Educational Q&A

Merit from pilgrimage depends not only on the place and time but also on inner discipline (samāhita—focused mind) and correct observance (vidhivat—according to rule). Properly performed sacred bathing at specific tīrthas on an auspicious astral occasion is said to yield merit equal to a major sacrifice.

The speaker is listing tīrtha-observances and their corresponding spiritual rewards. Here, he states that bathing at the Urvāśī and Lauhitya tīrthas during the Kṛttikā conjunction grants the fruit of the Puṇḍarīka sacrifice.
