अहिंसयित्वा ब्रह्महत्याविधानम् / Brahmahatyā incurred without physical violence
साड़ांश्व चतुरो वेदानधीते यो द्विजर्षभ: । षड्भ्य: प्रवृत्त: कर्मभ्यस्तं पात्रमृषयो विदु:
sāṅgāṁś ca caturo vedān adhīte yo dvijarṣabhaḥ | ṣaḍbhyaḥ pravṛttaḥ karmabhyas taṁ pātram ṛṣayo viduḥ ||
بھیشم نے کہا—جو دْوِجَرشبھ ویدانگوں سمیت چاروں ویدوں کا ادھیयन کرے اور برہمن کے شایانِ شان چھ کرموں—ادھیयन-ادھیापन، یجن-یاجن، دان-پرتیگرہ—میں سرگرم رہے، اسے رشی لوگ دان کا بہترین پاتر سمجھتے ہیں۔
भीष्म उवाच
A truly worthy recipient of charity is defined by Vedic learning (with its auxiliaries) and consistent engagement in the six Brahminical duties; sages value disciplined practice of dharma as the basis for eligibility.
In Anushasana Parva, Bhishma instructs on dharma, including rules of giving. Here he specifies the qualities of an ideal donee (pātra) for gifts: a learned and duty-observant Brahmin.
